Tag Inspector privacy policy

Last updated: 15 July 2026

Tag Inspector runs entirely in your browser and collects nothing. No account, no cookies, no analytics inside the extension, and nothing is sent to any server.

What the extension does

Tag Inspector is a free Chrome extension that detects the tracking tags on a web page and shows them to you. It identifies 12 or more platforms, including Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag, Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, TikTok Pixel, Google Ads, Twitter/X, Pinterest, Snapchat, Bing UET, HubSpot and Hotjar, along with cookie-consent platforms. It also streams the tracking events a page fires, inspects the page's data layer, checks tag setups for common problems, shows a tracking health score, and can produce an audit report of what it found.

All of this analysis happens locally, on the page you are viewing, on your own device. Reports are generated locally too, and exist only if you choose to save or print them.

Data we collect

None. Tag Inspector does not collect, store or transmit any personal data. There is no account to create, no sign-up, no cookies set by the extension, and no analytics inside the extension. Nothing is sent to NUVIX or to any third party.

What the extension accesses locally

To detect tags, Tag Inspector reads the page you are looking at. It works with:

This information is used to produce the on-screen list of detected tags and their IDs, and for nothing else.

Where data is stored

Detection results are kept in chrome.storage.session for the current browsing session only. They stay on your device and are cleared when the browser closes. Your preferences, such as the theme and icon badge settings, are kept in chrome.storage.local on your device so they survive between sessions; they contain no personal data and no browsing data. Nothing is stored on a remote server.

Permissions and why each is needed

The definitive permission list is shown by Chrome on the extension's install screen.

Third parties

None. Tag Inspector does not share data with any third party, because it does not collect or transmit any data in the first place.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date at the top. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
